When Sarbjit’s reel family bonded with his real family

The makers of the forthcoming film 'Sarbjit', which is based on Sarbjit Singh, who was accused of terrorism and spent 23 years in Kot Lakhpat jail in Lahore, organised a prayer meet to commemorate his third death anniversary. The evening's mood was set with Granthis singing Shabads. The resounding sound of Gurbani hymns filled the air and lent a pious touch to the event.

Sarbjit's sister Dalbir Kaur spoke about her bond with him and her painstaking efforts to bring him back to India. "We have found a new family while making this film. Har cheez ka ek sahi waqt hota hai, aur main hamesha chahti thi yeh film baney, par yeh ini ke haath banni thi. This film is not about Indians or Pakistanis but propagates the message of humanity." Her speech left everyone misty-eyed. Wiping her tears, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who plays Dalbir in the Omung Kumar directorial, said, "She is a woman of immense courage and her undaunted spirit is worth saluting." Randeep Hooda, who essays the protagonist in the biopic, showed his vulnerable side. Choked with emotion, he said, "Sarbjit is the story of a man stuck in the political turbulence between two countries. My only motive was to make sure that Dalbirji sees a glimpse of her brother in me."
