Filmmakers pay tribute to Satyajit Ray on birth anniversary
Honouring Satyajit Ray's immense contribution to the film industry, Bollywood directors like Shoojit Sircar and Madhur Bhandarkar have paid their respect to the maverick filmmaker on his 95th birth anniversary.
Ray, regarded as one of the finest filmmakers India has ever seen, helmed classics like 'Pather Panchali', 'Charulata' and 'Devi'.
Ray received many major awards in his career, including 32 Indian National Film Awards, a number of awards at international film festivals and award ceremonies, and an Academy Honorary Award in 1992.
He was honoured with the Bharat Ratna in 1992. 'Piku' director Sircar tweeted, "Today is Ray day.
Happy birthday to the Master Satyajit Ray..." "
Happy Birthday to the master of Indian cinema. Satyajit Ray sahab. Respects," wrote Ashoke Pandit.
Bhandarkar posted, "Master filmmaker and one of the most influential directors in world cinema, Satyajit Ray, was born on May 2, 1921."
