Varun-Alia’s ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’ goes on floors today
Mirror (November 21, 2015) was the first to report that Shashank Khaitan has roped in his 'Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania' hero to play the lead in the romcom 'Badrinath Ki Dulhania,' which will take the franchise forward. Now, Varun's bride, Alia Bhatt, has joined the cast and they start shooting in Mumbai from today.
"It's a fresh story set against a rural backdrop up North. Alia and Varun will be seen in completely new avatars. Shashank locked the script last year and has been conducting reading workshops with the leads since a month now," says a source close to the development.
Shashank, who began the recce early this year for the Karan Johar-production, has zeroed down on Kota and Jhansi. "After this Mumbai schedule, the actors will start filming the second schedule in September. The film's first love song, to be picturised on the duo in the first schedule, has already been recorded," adds the source. Meanwhile, Varun and Alia have taken their excitement to the social media. The actor posted a shoutout to his on-screen ladylove, "Alia, Humpty needs his dulhania," to which the 23-year-old actress quipped, "Varun! Everyone needs a Dulhania."
The duo will take a break to promote their other films - Varun his brother, Rohit Dhawan's, 'Dishoom' and Alia, Abhishek Chaubey's 'Udta Punjab' - after which they, along with Karan Johar and Sidharth Malhotra, will head to the US for a two-week musical tour. "Varun and Alia's characters will speak in a North Indian accent. They've been working on it for weeks," the source says.
