'Udta Punjab' makers refuse cuts, film won't release in Pakistan

HYDERABAD: The makers of 'Udta Punjab' have decided not to release the film in Pakistan after the censor board there refused to clear the film without 100 cuts. "It definitely means loss of revenue if the film is not released in Pakistan. But more than that... it would make no sense to release it with the said cuts. The film is intended to convey something and make a point," director Abhishek Chaubey told TOI here on the sidelines of an event.

He said they had the option to move court in India after the censor board here ordered 89 cuts . "There is no scope to fight our case in Pakistan. So, we decided not to release the film there,'' the filmmaker added. Chaubey said the film was doing well but the revenue could have been better if the movie had not been leaked on the Internet . He justified the use of expletives in 'Udta Punjab', saying that it was how the film's characters would have spoken in real life. "There was a bigger message that we wanted to convey with the movie and that was against drug peddling and drug abuse. The film had to reflect reality," he said.
